These universities are generally removed from the day to day operations, they are there just to ensure that the work is successful or not. The work is not generally done in under a day, it's all about setting professionals and the industry up for growth and success. They are responsible for the growth of the business. In this industry innovation is the key attribute for growth.

In this sector the evolution is happening at a faster rate. The modern hospitality industry is currently facing evolving changes in the customer behaviour. Innovation in hospitality education starts with an awareness of needs, not of the student, but of the customer. The modern hospitality customer is evolving faster than ever before. The awareness required can only be achieved if the universities involve themselves in this ever growing field. Connecting the real world with the classroom is one of the biggest requirements. By connecting the classroom to the real-world in this way, schools have a direct line to the needs of the market, and this can then shape the programs they deliver.

Cross culture innovation will unlock the potential of the market

Most of the successes and the growth happen after the innovation in the hospitality industry. One of the biggest challenges in the industry is the use of Big data. Collecting data is tough and the diversity of the data also makes it difficult to analyze. It's all scattered and the data is not clean. The industry is also not keen to use high tech in the industry.

It does not matter what people think but the experience of multiple cultures increases the speed of innovation. This is one of the reasons behind the success of international students in the field of the hospitality industry. Most of the Indian international students who venture into the hospitality industry due to experience in multiple cultures 

Whether you’re talking about innovation or multiculturalism, the essential approach to modern hospitality education is relevancy. We, as educators, need to nurture environments and approaches to learning that are fully inclusive and welcoming of the rich diversity within the hospitality industry.

We work in the most global industry, just head into any hospitality business in any country and you’re likely to find multiple nationalities. This is the reality for graduates, they will go into businesses and be surrounded by people from different cultures, with opposing viewpoints and alternative lifestyles. As educational institutions, we need to ensure our campuses and classrooms reflect this, not only for preparedness but also for the benefit perspective brings to a professional career. Hospitality education needs to be reflective of the industry, both in terms of the academic content and social environment.

Education is evolution

Bringing it back to the need for innovation, I believe this should be a brand characteristic of all hospitality schools. The desire to be at the forefront and support those leading the industry forward should be built into the way of working. We all need to empower the big thinkers and visionaries with the ability to change and disrupt our industry, and we need to equip our graduates to not just stay ahead of the curve, but help in defining what that curve looks like.
