No EU ‘Green Pass’ for India-Made AstraZeneca Covishield Vaccine

The Green Pass or the immunity passport that is applicable to the foreign travelers who are going to the EU  for any kind of reason may be studied or  for professional purposes. As per the rules an individual has to get vaccinated  by the vaccines that are on the list of WHO. If the vaccines that have been used to get vaccinated are not on the list of WHO  then that individual will not be allowed to enter the EU.

The Green Pass or the immunity passport that is applicable to the foreign travelers who are going to the EU  for any kind of reason may be studied or  for professional purposes. As per the rules an individual has to get vaccinated  by the vaccines that are on the list of WHO. If the vaccines that have been used to get vaccinated are not on the list of WHO  then that individual will not be allowed to enter the EU. 

The European medicine  agency or the EMA has allowed 4 vaccines so far.  the vaccines are

– Comirnaty (Pfizer/BioNTech), Moderna, Vaxzervria (AstraZeneca manufactured in the UK and EU countries), and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson).

Covishield,  is a vaccine for covid-19 which is manufactured by Serum Institute of India. This vaccine is currently derived from the Astrazeneca shot, and is not approved by the European Union. Apart from this Bharat biotech’s covid vaccine covaxin is not on the approved list.

From the 1st July onwards those who do not have green pass will not be allowed in the European Union entering from abroad.  Although the individual countries have the  right to impose any kind of restrictions as per the infection rate. 


Currently there are three types of covid-19 passport or the green passport is available:

  • Vaccination passport
  • Test certificate
  • Recovery certificate

As per the present report students or individuals who were infected by the covid-19 but have recovered from it will be permitted to travel  in the European Union with the Covid travel certificate.


Covishield Vs Vaxzevria

Vaxzevria, as the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is known outside India, is produced by India-based Serum Institute, South Korea-based SK Biosciences, as well as AstraZeneca at four sites. 

The World Health Organization has given its nod to AstraZeneca’s Vaxzevria and its corresponding versions, including Covishield.
