Deakin University is an Australian public university with approximately 53,000 higher education students . Established in 1974, the University was named after the leader of the Australian federation movement and the nation's second Prime Minister, Alfred Deakin. Its main campuses are in Melbourne's Burwood suburb, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront and Warrnambool, as well as the online Cloud Campus. An overall band score of 6 or higher in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, with no individual band score less than 6 or equivalent.

Most postgraduate courses at Deakin require English language test scores equal to or better than the scores of 6.5  However, some postgraduate degree programs require higher levels of English proficiency. Check your course to see what the English language requirement is.


 India Standard class XII minimum entry requirement for the Bachelor of Commerce is 70% , for other streams you need minimum 65%.

Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma

 • an approved three-year undergraduate degree, or comparable, from an approved university or other educational institution; or

 • comparable qualifications gained by examination or relevant professional or industrial experience.

Master's degree

Students applying for entry into a master's by coursework degree are required to have completed at least a three-year bachelor's degree, or comparable, of an acceptable standard from an approved university or other educational institution.

Master's degree by research

 Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with honours (lower second class and above), or equivalent, from a recognised tertiary institution in an appropriate discipline.

 You must also have demonstrated capacity to undertake significant research in the proposed field for which Deakin can provide the required supervisory expertise.

Students at the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) have the option of staying in a host family home. This provides a great opportunity for students to improve their English in everyday situations and to learn more about living in Australia.


There are an array of scholarships available to international students through Deakin and through other parties, including the Australian Government.

 Deakin has recently introduced two new scholarships for international students:

    • Deakin Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship offers a 100% or 50% tuition fee reduction for the normal duration of your course, acceptance into Deakin's signature leadership program, and priority place in on campus accommodation (at own cost and subject to availability)

    • Deakin International Scholarship offers 25% tuition fee reduction for the normal duration of your course.

 Australia Awards

The Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships funded by the Australian Government that provide highachieving individuals from the Asia-Pacific region with the opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. Australia Awards Scholarships are for full-time university studies in Australia, and cover full tuition and all other compulsory fees; basic health insurance; a return airfare to Australia; establishment allowance; and a living allowance.

Cost of Living

Generally, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection requires $18,610 as the minimum cost of living to issue a student visa. Your living expenses in Australia will depend highly on which region you plan to live in. For example, more urbanized areas will have higher costs for accommodation. The type of accommodation is also important. Hostels and guesthouses range from $80 to $135 a week, while shared rentals and on-campus accommodation will cost $70 to $250. More expensive options are homestay ($110 to $270 per week) and rental ($100 to $400 per week). Aside from accommodation, your weekly expenses will most likely include groceries or eating out ($80 to $200), gas and electricity ($60 to $100), phone and internet ($20 to $50), public transport ($10 to $50) and entertainment ($50 to $100).
